Crown of Blood Collection Books 13 eBook Gwynn White

I had already read and reviewed book one separately, so here are my thoughts on books two and three, Warlord's Wager and Dragon's Fire.

Crown of Blood series has a beautifuly complex and interesting story line. Great progaonists and villains. While I'm disappointed to end book 3 with an unresolved storyline (I believe this is a 6-book set), I've really enjoyed the stories--even with the huge time leap from book 2 to 3. Great twists and turns and well developed characters.

Crown of Blood Collection Books 13 eBook Gwynn White Reviews

Putting the three books together Gwynn White has saved us the trouble of having to order each book separately. They are so good that you do not want to stop reading even to order the next one in the series.
Here we have a vast empire that covers the two thirds of the planet.Order is maintained through ice crystals, a unique invention that few know how it actually works.
In the first book the writer lays out the basics in the vast canvas she is planning to spread before us. It all revolves round a curse that the Chenayan Emperors' try to avoid at all costs.
The basic characters go on developing as the story unfolds and new ones are added as the one book follows the other.
We see a vast game with tiles that the dead Dmitri plays against spider-like Felix who moves the threads that will result in his and his family's advancement. Yet, all choices, even the best intended ones, come with a price and the heroes are called to live with the consequences.
The individual stories of most of the heroes are mostly heart-wrenching and the youngest generation is the one that are manipulated mostly, although they prove quite resilient.
To sum up, to people who like a blend of science fiction, steampunk and pure fantasy with lots of love, hatred, jealousy and madness thrown in, it is an ideal read that will keep you on your toes and leave you wanting more. I'm quite addicted.
Rebel's Honor
Very interesting blend of steampunk with post-apocalyptic/dystopian for the world building and well developed characters. I loved Lynx and her "attitude" on a lot of things, her sister on the other hand reminded me of my very spoiled little brother and his constant need to have the best of the best no matter what it does to others. There were times that part of the book were hard for me to catch on, as it was more political and I stay away from those types of books. But I ended up liking the book and cant wait to read the next one
Warlord's Wager
This is the 2nd book in the series and picks up right where Rebel's Honor left off, just as action packed with spies, espionage as well as the star crossed lovers. Book three is on my to read list next.
Dragon's Fire
This is the 3rd book in the series and picks up right where Warlord's Wager left off, just as action packed with spies, espionage as well as the star crossed lovers.Plenty of shocking moments in this book that were not expected. I can not wait to read the 4th book!
Action packed with spies, espionage as well as the star crossed lovers. Plenty of shocking moments in this trilogy that were not expected.
Rebel's Honour -This is the first book I have read from Gywnn White and it was good. It's not a typical romantic story, though there is romance in the plot, and bonus points for it not being hard out political either. Timeline wise can almost be compared to the Shannara series from Terry Brooks in that it happens way into the future after a great war threatened the whole of civilisation; but in this case some technology still exits. The main characters are complex and well developed and continue to grow throughout the book and even in the second one which I am currently reading. Lynx, as a heroine, shows that complexity and growth really well as she goes from being a raider in the Norrin tribe to being the crown princess and future empress. She finds out that nothing is as cut and dried as she though and has to revise quite a bit of her idealism and learn to manoeuvre among all the greys.

Warlord's Wager - Book 2 takes off right after the first one and we find out what happened to Axel after he left to find a cure and how Lukan deals with becoming emperor. Lynx continues to mature and grow as she is suddenly thrust into a position she never dreamed she would be in. Felix is ever the cunning player in the shadows, manipulating all he can while keeping on the right side of Lukan. In the end everything comes to a head and Lukan makes a drastic decision.

Dragon's Fire - It's been 16 years since we last saw everyone and plenty has happened in that time. The characters remain real and flawed and the relationship between Axel and Lynx is the perfect example. They haven't been with each other for 16 years, yes they have kept in touch, but they skipped dating and living together to suddenly having a teenage son who has been abducted and being joint leaders in the Pathfinder Alliance. The book is fast paced, situations keep developing and Felix gets more and more devious; the only side he's on is his side. In a way he and Dmitri are alike, machinations within machinations, moving pieces on a board with rules they're the only ones privy to.
Totally enjoyed the books. Will definitely finish this series.
Excellent writing with lots of detail; can't wait to read the next part.
